Closer to a Cure

If memory is identity, what happens to a married couple when one partner begins to lose their memory? The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases is conducting the world’s largest study on dementia, tracking thousands of patients with Alzheimer’s over a thirty year period to identify patterns in disease markers that may point the way towards a treatment, or even a cure.

Much of my work focuses on health equity and disease. I am fascinated with the human body as a locus of identity, suffering and celebration. As the body is always subject to the dominant politic; it becomes a foil to explore social inequality, hierarchies of desire and networks of care. Through cinema, I create space for othered bodies in societies with limited tolerance and no safety nets.
